AGoT Arya 1: more of what we really know about Robb Stark (and Jon Snow, and Theon Greyjoy)

Here, Robb once again proves himself a typical teenage boy, with an undeveloped sense of self-control. He agrees to Joffrey’s proposition that they fight with real swords and, when Ser Rodrik vetos this, gets so angry that he shouts curses and must be physically restrained by Theon (who thus demonstrates both his greater social astuteness, and his caring for Robb — unless he’s just trying to prevent a scene that could reflect badly on him).

Jon, on the other hand, demonstrates more of his trademark outer self-control: his face grows “still as the pool at the heart of the godswood.” He does loosen up enough with Arya to express some of his inner discontent, if only with relatively uncontroversial statements: “Joffrey is truly a little shit” (pretty blatant audience-surrogation there); “Nothing is fair.”
